How To Proceed With Your Flooring Project

Having a new floor, tile shower or backsplash installed in your home can be a very daunting task. So many questions need to be answered. What’s all involved in the process? What needs to be done to ensure that everything is installed correctly? What products will work best in my particular home? Where would be the best place to go and purchase these products? These questions and potentially many more will need to be addressed.

You have several options available as to how to proceed. You could spend hours and hours reading up on different types of materials for different applications, written by people with varying opinions in different parts of the country that may or may not apply to your home. Empowering yourself with knowledge is never a bad idea but, knowing how to apply it is where experience comes in.

You can stop by your local big box store and talk to a sales associate in the flooring department. They may be able to provide you with some assistance.  However, if you have read up on your options for your floors before you went, chances are you already know as much as they do.

Heading in to a flooring store is another option. Depending on who you happen to get, the salesman may or may not have much experience in our industry. They will undoubtedly know their products and also know which ones they would like to sell. If you need particular assistance with matching colors and styles, they may be able to help. Whatever service they provide, however, will be tied into the overall price.

Lastly, you could talk to friends or family in the area and get their recommendations. They may be able to put you in contact with a trained professional with whom they recieved quality work. Chances are they will regale you with the tale of a disappointing experience at a flooring store or with underwhelming installers that left them feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

Consulting A Qualified Flooring Installer First

A growing trend we see happening in the flooring industry is the diminishing number of qualified installers. It requires hard work, patience, experience and skill acquired over many years. A drawback of a store is that even if you do get products you are satisfied with, there is no guarantee you will be happy with the installers they send. You may get lucky and you may not.

Why take a chance on such a big investment? Get to know your installers first. Have a plan already in place before you begin the buying process. Knowing what you are going to need and where to go will alleviate a lot of the stress of purchasing flooring. Having a disscusion with a qualified installer will put you ahead of the curve. This will ensure you get exactly the floors, tile shower or backsplash that you had envisioned.

Quality vs Cost For Flooring Installation

It can be difficult to find the perfect balance between cost and quality when you are considering working with a flooring installer. Hiring a contractor because he is the cheapest will typically end up costing you more in the long run. They will most likely use inferior materials and do a poor job installing your floors.

When an installer quotes you a price that is way below what others are bidding, there is usually a reason why. The old adage, “You get what you pay for”, usually rings true. It applies especially when it comes to floor materials and flooring contractors.

If you plan on doing your floors the right way the first time, its best to find a contractor who focuses on quality. Getting a job done quickly may sound nice, but speed is usually accompanied by mistakes. When it comes to flooring, simple mistakes can lead to costly repairs down the road. Quality may take a little more time, but is well worth it in the end.
